Connecting Home

Row of HousesWhat we do

APA Group own and operate the gas mains in Brisbane south of the river and we operate the gas mains on the north side of Brisbane.

To connect your home to natural gas we install a pipe from the natural gas main (in the street) to your property and then install a natural gas meter.

If a natural gas main runs past the front of your property and you’re installing a natural gas hot water system, we can usually install the connection and meter for free.

How to connect

1. Call 1800 007 427 for a property assessment
2. We’ll call you with the assessment results
3. Call your chosen retailer
4. Our contractor will call you to schedule connection

Things for you to do

• Choose your natural gas retailer.  Once you’ve organised connection, you’ll need to choose who to buy your gas from.  Find out more and explore your options by visiting www.thepowertochoose.qld.gov.au

• Buy your appliances.  Natural gas appliances are available from manufacturers, appliance retailers and some natural gas retailers.

• Install your appliances.  Once the natural gas meter is installed, you’ll need a licensed gasfitter to install your natural gas appliances, connecting them to the meter.

You can find a licensed gasfitter in the Yellow Pages under “Plumbers & Gasfitters”.

New Home Developments

Property developers can contact APA’s representatives who will guide you on the availability of natural gas in your estate.

If natural gas is available, APA will then design the natural gas reticulation for your estate.  If you agree to having natural gas made available on your estate then you will need to put in place arrangements with our representative to have gas made available.  Depending on the proximity of your site to the gas networks and your gas consumption, a financial contribution may be required to have natural gas connected.

In the case of new houses on an estate, the builder or the owner of the new house should notify a natural gas retailer when the house is at lockup stage to have gas supply connected.
