From 1 March 2006 new houses in Queensland have been required by law to be more sustainable by ensuring they use water and energy more efficiently.  Natural gas meets this requirement. Newly constructed houses, townhouses, terrace houses and sole occupancy units are required by law to have greenhouse efficient hot water systems such a gas hot water system.
